【Teacher Introduction】

1. Gil Mor, a professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, is the recipient of the International Cooperation Promotion Award of the China Medical Science and Technology Award and the Bianzhong Award of the Hubei Provincial Government. Affiliated with Wayne State University in the United States, Prof. Gil Mor focuses his research on the immune dialogue at the maternal-fetal interface, exploring the pathogenesis and prevention strategies of major pregnancy-related diseases.

2. Joanne Kwak - Kim, President of the International Society for Reproductive Immunology, Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in the United States. This course will focus on explaining content related to basic and clinical reproductive immunology.

3. Lana McClements, an international expert and Associate Professor in the field of reproductive biology at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, has received the "Emerging Reproductive Research Leadership Award" from the Society for Reproductive Biology，targeting treatment resistant breast cancer stem cells using FKBPL and its peptide derivatives.

4. Jean Pierre Allam, Director of the Andrology Department at the University Hospital of the University of Bonn, Germany. His research focuses on the cellular and molecular immune mechanisms in patients with atopic dermatitis, as well as the mechanisms of the impact of reactive oxygen species (ROS) on human sperm function and fertilization capacity.

5. Rosanna Elizabeth Ramhorst, Principal Researcher of CONICET (National Research Council for Science and Technology) at the Immunopharmacology Lab, University of Buenos Aires, School of Sciences， Argentina. The research focuses on the impact of the embryo quality on shaping endometrial immune response, mainly focusing on soluble factors produced by human embryos and their impact on immune cells to coordinating embryo implantation.

6. Yeung Shu Biu William, an Honorary Fellow of the Hong Kong College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists and a Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Hong Kong, China. His research interests include the interaction between sperm/embryos and the female reproductive tract, the functions of pregnancy-related glycoproteins glycodelins, fertilization, reproductive-related microRNAs, endometrial stem cells.

7. Philip C.N. CHIU, Associate Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Hong Kong, China, has long been dedicated to researching the roles of glycosylated molecules in sperm function, fertilization, and placental development, as well as their immunological mechanisms.

8. ZHANG Tao, Judy, is a dedicated Research Assistant Professor in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. With a robust background in reproductive immunology, her research focuses on bridging the gap between basic laboratory findings and their clinical applications. Dr. Zhang’s recent work has concentrated on understanding and evaluating endometrial receptivity from an immunological perspective, particularly in women experiencing reproductive failure, adenomyosis, and endometriosis.

【Course Introduction】

This is a five-day course that focuses on basic concepts, methods and study design in genetic and molecular epidemiology research. The course will be given in a blended learning format, consisting of lectures on zoom, reading sessions, video material and discussions. There is no examination in the end of the course, participation in lectures and discussion sessions is required to pass the course.

The intended learning outcome of the course is listed below. After successfully completing this course you are expected to be able to:

- Describe the basic organization of the human genome, familial inheritance, and how genetic variation can influence complex traits.

- Explain specific genetic methods and how these methods can be used in epidemiological studies.

- Explain different types of molecular omics techniques and how these methods can be used in epidemiological studies.

- Describe the fundamentals of study design of population-based cohorts.

- Give examples of how genetic methods can be beneficial for research and for individuals.

Lu Yi PhD, Principal Researcher, Karolinska Institutet | Director, KI Psychiatric Genomics Institute

I lead a multidisciplinary team at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden, to identify genetic risk factors for common complex disorders, especially psychiatric disorders. By integrating large-scale genomics, single-cell transcriptomics and many other cutting-edge technologies, my work aims to uncover biological mechanisms that can be targeted for new therapies and more precise, subgroup-tailored treatments.

As co-chair of the Depression Working Group at the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium—the world’s largest collaborative network in psychiatric genomics—I am dedicated to foster international partnerships, promote open data sharing, and accelerate the translation of our discoveries into clinical applications.

【Course Introduction】

In this course, we will start from reviewing the concepts and aims of epidemiology and its relationship with causal inference, then we move further on how genetics can help to learn causality in epidemiology. We will focus on Mendelian randomization (MR), which uses genetic variants as instrumental variables to test or estimate the potential causal effect of a (non-genetic) risk factor on a disease or health-related out.

战义强，中山大学公共卫生学院（深圳）流行病与卫生统计学副教授、博士生导师，广东省珠江人才计划青年拔尖人才。本科毕业于山东大学预防医学专业，硕士毕业于复旦大学流行病与卫生统计学专业，博士毕业于瑞典卡罗琳斯卡医学院流行病学专业。先后在瑞典卡罗琳斯卡医学院从事博士后研究工作，2020年起担任德国亥姆霍兹国家研究中心联合会-德国神经退行性疾病研究中心(DZNE)神经流行病学课题组组长、博士生导师，2021年起担任瑞典卡罗琳斯卡医学院助理教授、博士生导师。主要从事老年流行病学、神经流行病学、心血管糖尿病等代谢性疾病、慢性阻塞性肺病等的慢性非传染性疾病等流行病学研究工作。

【Teacher Introduction】

Dr. Yiqiang Zhan is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology at the School of Public Health (Shenzhen), Sun Yat-Sen University, Shenzhen, China. Before moving to Shenzhen, he was a tenure-track Assistant Professor in epidemiology at Karolinska Institutet, Sweden. He was also a group leader and principal investigator in neuroepidemiology at the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE). Dr. Zhan has been working on aging and neurodegenerative diseases for the past years and was awarded the NIA Telomere Research Network Award in 2021. He obtained his bachelor, master, and Ph.D. degrees from Shandong University, Fudan University, and Karolinska Institutet, respectively. He has published over 70 articles and has a H-index of 24.

【Course Introduction】

This course offers a comprehensive exploration of mental health nursing, focusing on the assessment and management of substance use, mental illness, and risk. It is designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to address these complex issues effectively. The course is structured around a series of lectures, each covering a specific topic relevant to mental health and substance use.

The lecture on Concepts of Dependence will delve into the psychological and physiological aspects of addiction, providing a foundational understanding of how dependence develops and affects individuals. Assessment of Substance Use will teach students how to evaluate substance use patterns and their impact on mental health, using various assessment tools and techniques.

Dual Diagnosis will address the challenges of managing patients with both mental health disorders and substance use issues, highlighting the importance of integrated treatment approaches. Motivational Interviewing will focus on techniques to encourage patients to engage in treatment and make positive changes in their lives.

The lecture on Substance Use in the Over 50s will explore the unique challenges faced by older adults with substance use issues, including the interplay between aging and addiction. Schizophrenia, Bi-Polar, and OCD lectures will provide in-depth insights into these specific mental health conditions, their symptoms, and management strategies.

Finally, Risk Assessment will cover methods to evaluate and mitigate risks associated with mental illness and substance use, ensuring patient safety and effective care. While the course is tailored to the needs of mental health nursing, it is also valuable for non-nursing students, offering a broad perspective on these critical topics.

Dr. Chris Wagstaff is an Associate Professor in Mental Health Nursing at the University of Birmingham. As a Clinical Nurse Specialist in mental health, he brings valuable clinical experience to his academic role. Dr. Wagstaff currently serves as the Programme Director for the MSc in Nursing and the Head of Global Student Mobility in the College of Medicine and Health. Additionally, he is the Chair of the Graduate Entry Nursing – International Network.

Dr. Wagstaff's PhD was an interpretative study focused on disengagement from mental health services. He regularly publishes qualitative and mixed-methods papers in reputable journals, contributing significantly to the field. His primary research interests include mental health, violence, and substance use, areas in which he has conducted extensive studies and received recognition.

With over 20 years of teaching experience, Dr. Wagstaff maintains close working relationships with both Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) and the University of São Paulo. He is an active member of the GRUPAD and Risk, Abuse, and Violence (RAV) research programmes, collaborating on international projects that aim to improve mental health outcomes globally.

临床流行病学的研究问题源于临床实践，直面患者的医护人员常面临如下的问题：患病机制是什么？（病因学），为什么会患病？（危险因素），如何避免患病？（预防），什么类型的疾病？（诊断），患病后有什么后果？（预后），患病后应该注意些什么？（治疗）。为了解决这些问题，有以下几种研究设计，包括队列研究，病例对照研究，随机对照临床试验。临床流行病学研究的结果将为临床决策提供证据。

在本次课程中，将通过已发表研究成果或正在进行中的研究实例来理解临床流行病学原理和实践，通过示例讲解如何通过研究设计来解决临床实践中的问题。

课程主题包括：应用临床研究的原理；病因学研究；疾病危险因素；预测、预后、预防研究、系统评价和Meta分析。

【Course Introduction】

Research questions in clinical epidemiology originate from direct clinical practice. Healthcare professionals in contact with patients often encounter questions that involve what caused the disease？ (Etiology), why did I get it? (Risk factors), Could I have done something to avoid it? (Prevention), what type of disease do I have? (Diagnosis), what would happen to me now that I have this disease? (Prognosis) and/or what can I do about it? (Therapy).

To answer these questions, several study designs are available, ranging from cohort and case-control studies to randomized controlled clinical trials. Results from clinical epidemiological research are used in patient management decisions.

In this course, the principles and practice of clinical epidemiology will be considered, using practical examples from the literature and from ongoing studies. We will evaluate basic concepts as well as in depth examples on how we can derive questions formulated in the practice into research studies and programs.

Oscar H. Franco教授是荷兰乌特勒支大学公共卫生学全职教授、全球公共卫生与生物伦理学系主任和健康生活协会主席。Oscar 教授还是哈佛大学T.H. Prof. Oscar H. Franco is full Professor of Public Health, Director of the Department of Global Public Health & Bioethics and Chairman of Healthy Living at UMC Utrecht, The Netherlands.Furthermore, Oscar is an Adjunct Professor at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the University of Bern and scientific advisor for the French television channel France24. Prof. Franco has published over 800 publications and has an H-index of 107.Prof. Franco obtained his MD at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá, Colombia in 1998. In 2001, he moved to the Netherlands to complete MSc and DSc degrees in clinical epidemiology and a PhD in public health and cardiovascular disease prevention (2005) at the Erasmus University Medical Center. Following a postdoc at Erasmus MC, he moved to the UK where he was a senior public health epidemiologist at Unilever England, assistant professor of public health at the University of Warwick, and then director of the MPhil program and clinical lecturer in public health at the University of Cambridge. In 2012, Prof. Franco returned to ErasmusMC where he worked as a professor of preventive medicine and the principal investigator of the cardiovascular epidemiology group. He also founded and directed the Rotterdam Intergenerational Ageing Research Center, Erasmus AGE, and he was co-founder and CEO of Erasmus Epidemiology Resources. Afterwards, from 2018 until 2022 Prof. Franco worked as Professor of Epidemiology and Public Health and Director of the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine (ISPM) at the University of Bern, Bern, Switzerland.As a fellow of, inter alia, the European Society of Cardiology and St Edmunds’ College at the University of Cambridge, Prof. Franco was awarded the Dutch national public health prize of 2005.

【Course Introduction】

The objective of this course is to equip students with fundamental skills in scientific writing for epidemiologic research, utilizing real-life examples and practical exercises for effective learning.

Disseminating research output through publication is essential. Crafting a proficient scientific paper is comparable to writing an engaging narrative; the significance lies not only in the findings but also in the manner of presentation and interpretation of data, which ultimately determines the success of the scientific paper.

This course will encompass the ethics, fundamental principles, and methodologies for composing an effective scientific paper, integrating practical examples from existing literature. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to gain knowledge through real-world case studies and hands-on exercises.This writing workshop addresses the presentation and style of publications in epidemiologic research. Topics covered include ethics in publication, sentence construction and word choice, guidelines for writing the introduction, methods, results, and discussion sections, as well as responding to reviewers' comments.

作为一名人群健康科学家，许教授的研究聚焦于新加坡及全球重要慢性病的流行病学。她是拥有 63,257 名参与者的新加坡华族健康研究的项目负责人，并已合著了约500篇科学论文，内容涉及膳食、生活方式、基因与多种疾病发生风险的关系，如癌症、心血管疾病、糖尿病、终末期肾病、痛风、帕金森病、骨质疏松和骨关节炎。近期，她还发表了关于重要衰老结局（如机体衰弱、认知障碍和衰老相关抑郁症）的影响因素的研究。

【Teacher Introduction】

Professor Koh is Professor in Healthy Longevity Translational Research Programme at Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore (NUS). She earned her MBBS (Honours) from NUS, completed a PhD in immunology at the University of Sydney in Australia, and received postdoctoral training in epidemiology at the University of Southern California in the USA. Being a population health scientist, Prof Koh’s research is in studying the epidemiology of important chronic diseases in Singapore and worldwide. She is the Principal Investigator of the 63,257-strong Singapore Chinese Health Study, and has co-authored about 500 scientific papers on diet, lifestyle and genes in relation to risk of diseases such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, end-stage kidney disease, gout, Parkinson’s disease, gout, osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. More recently, she has also published on factors that could influence important ageing outcomes such as physical frailty, cognitive impairment and aging-related depression. She is listed among the world’s top 2% most cited scientists by Stanford University and has received over $35 million dollars in funding from National Institutes of Health (NIH) in USA and the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) in Singapore.  She is a recipient of the NMRC Clinician-Scientist Senior Investigator Award. In her role as Assistant Dean and Director for the NUS School of Medicine Clinician-Scientist Development Unit, she mentors budding clinician-scientists and was awarded the Nature Awards for Mentoring in 2023 in recognition of her achievement as a mentor to many in their academic careers in Singapore.

【Teacher Introduction】

Melody Ding (丁玎) is a professor at the Sydney School of Public Health and the University of Sydney. She dedicates her research across a broad spectrum of unique yet interrelated topics involving physical activity, social well-being, behavioural epidemiology and chronic disease prevention research, evidenced by more than 200 published papers in reputable academic journals (e.g., The Lancet, the BMJ, JACC, Plos Medicine) and more than 16000 citations. She led the 2016 and 2021 Lancet Series on Physical Activity and has been enthusiastically advocating for equal access to an active lifestyle. Melody was the recipient of the 2018 NSW Young Tall Poppy of the Year, the 2019 Australian Museum Eureka Prize Emerging Leader in Science, and the 2021 Ministerial Award for Rising Star in Cardiovascular Disease Research. She was named in 2022 as Australia’s Top 20 scientists under 40. Her work has informed policies, guidelines, and practices and has received extensive media coverage around the world.
